- Travel Ultrabooks
- 2-in-1 (Convertibles)
- Budget laptops
Those are the three main categories of travel laptops which I will be explaining down below.
Travel Ultrabooks are made to be used as go-to travel laptops because of their portability, but also the combination of the powerful device in a lightweight body. In my opinion, they are one of the best options for traveling.
2-in-1 laptops or as they are usually called convertibles are made to combine all the features of a laptop and tablet computers in one. That’s where the name came from. They are made to be useful for work and travel, but also for entertainment when needed.
Budget laptops are really affordable laptops for traveling, which have the same goal as travel ultrabooks, but for a budget price. It doesn’t mean that they are bad. There are some really good laptops.

Asus is known to manufacture laptops for a very long time now, and they do a really good job.
ZenBook is a great laptop for travel as it features 13.3 inch LCD display.
Inside the ultra-slim body is i5 core processor, along with the 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of SSD. It’s run by Windows 10 and some of the special features are Harman Kardon Audio, backlit keyboard, and a fingerprint reader.
A backlit keyboard is really useful for typing in the dark, which might occur as you are traveling.
Also, remember how I mentioned having a password secured laptop when traveling for safety? This laptop has a fingerprint reader, which is a really big boost for security.
Lightweight aluminum body is better than a plastic body, especially for traveling. The whole laptop weighs only 2.6 lbs, which is a great thing for a comfortable portability.
It’s available on Amazon, and you can choose if you want to order Asus ZenBook with Microsoft Office or not. If you plan to use it for work, the option with Microsoft Office might be a great idea.
02. Apple MacBook Pro
One of my favorites, no matter it is on the pricey side.
What laptops do you see the most at the airports and in cafe’s when traveling? It would be the Apple’s laptops. At least, that’s what caught my eye.
MacBook Pro comes with Retina display which is ideal to use in any situations. If you are traveling, and need to use the MacBook Pro outside, or in the back yard – you will be able to do so easily thanks to the Retina display.
This version comes with a Touch Bar and Touch ID which helps to make some things faster.
Inside this beautiful slim lightweight body is Intel i7 Quad Core processor, along with the 16 GB of RAM and 512 GB of SSD. This combination will get all your needs done without any difficulties.
It also features Radeon Pro 560 graphic card with 4 GB, which should be more than enough for video editing or rendering.

However, if you aren’t into Apple products or they are simply too pricey, there are plenty of laptops for travel in this post.
03. Microsoft Surface Pro 4
Microsoft Surface Pro 4 is a perfect example of the 2-in-1 laptop.
12.3″ PixelSense screen which is featured in Surface Pro 4 has a really high contrast and low glare. That’s why this 2-in-1 laptop is great for outdoor use, or for use anywhere basically.
Not only the screen helps your eyes to focus without straining them, it allows you to work even on the brightest days outside.
With Microsoft Surface Pro 4 you will be able to switch from tablet to laptop in just a few seconds. Multi-position kickstand will provide you many angles for easier use, so you can relax and lay back.
Surface Pro 4 can be paired with an updated and improved keyboard from Microsoft, however, it has to be bought separately.
This 2-in-1 laptop is really lightweight, even more, light than some laptops and that’s what’s good about the 2-in-1 laptops. That only goes in your favor of traveling, which makes it really easy.
However, it doesn’t mean that this traveling laptop isn’t powerful. Intel Core i5 processor is located inside, along with the 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage.
If the specifications aren’t satisfying enough, you are able to choose from 8 different models of this laptop.
04. HP Spectre
It’s another 2-in-1 laptop, which you might have figured out already, is great for traveling.

Backlit keyboard will help you work even in the darkest places, on the Windows 10 system which comes with HP Spectre.
One of the most interesting and the most useful features in my personal opinion is that the screen is rotatable 360°. It gives this laptop ability to be used as a tablet.
Not only it’s great for traveling, but it’s also great both for work and entertainment.
Like any other 2-in-1 convertible laptop, it takes only a second to transform it from tablet to the fully working laptop computer. Even when you are out there traveling.
05. Acer Chromebook R 11
This is another convertible laptop, but that’s really great because they’re amazing to travel with.
Acer Chromebook R 11 is a little bit smaller than the last 2-in-1 laptop. It has an 11.6″ HD touchscreen. It’s powered by Intel Celeron N3150, with 4 GB of RAM and 32 GB of internal storage.
It’s a perfect laptop for traveling and yet perfect budget laptop. It’s going to do the job right, if you aren’t expecting too much out of it – and if you are on a really tight budget.
An operating system on this bad boy is Chrome OS and some of the most useful features would be 360 degrees rotatable display and display which supports 10 finger touch.
For all the travelers who need their laptop last long, Acer Chromebook R 11 will do it for sure. Its battery can last up to 10 hours.
However, if you aren’t happy with the specifications of this laptop – you can choose the processor, memory, and storage manually when purchasing it through Amazon.
Also, if you aren’t into 360° rotatable displays, you can choose the option with the usual laptop design (clamshell).
Quick Ways To Measure a Travel Laptop
Measuring a laptop can sound weird and be confusing, but it really has its benefits.
If you decided to purchase a laptop backpack or any kind of protection for your new travel laptop, you needed to know the size of your laptop.
The best way to do so would be to measure the laptop’s screen.
It can be done with a standard measure tape, and your starting measuring point should be an upper left corner of the screen, and simply extend your measure tape to the opposite corner to get the screen’s dimension.
That’s how you will know your screen size. And by knowing a screen size you will be able to purchase a laptop bag, cover or any sort of safety for him.
However, if you want to know the height of your laptop – it’s a simple process.
Simply, close the laptop screen, take a standard measure tape once again and start measuring at the bottom of the sides.
Screen sizes are usually in tenths of an inch (15.3″, 17.1″) while standard measurement tapes are marked in 16th of an inch.
To convert 16th of an inch in tenths of an inch simply search for a chart of common sizes and look up the size you measured in 16th of an inch, in 10th of an inch.
Choosing a best laptop for travelling shouldn’t be a complicated process.
That’s why I have made this guide and a list to help you find the best laptop for travel.
You should first consider which type of travel laptop would you need, and which type would be preferred for your tasks. Maybe 2-in-1 laptops are just the right thing for you, but maybe it won’t be able to deliver to your expectations.
Once you have made up your mind, make sure you know your budget when deciding which features would you want your travel laptop to have.
The better the features – the pricey laptop will be. However, in my personal experience, it’s really worth it.
However, even if you are on the tightest budget possible – there are still options available for you such as the Acer Chromebook R 11.
It might not be the perfect one, while on the other hand, it’s going to do the job.
Also, make sure you protect your data & information, and your laptop as well.
